Winter 2014: The Sisterhood
"The Sisterhood" series had as its focus five young women who are in different stages of discerning a religious vocation, and it followed them as they visited three different religious communities: the Carmelites of the Aged and Infirm, the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence, and our community, the Sisters of St. Joseph the Worker.
The Sisters spent months in prayer and in dialogue with the producers before agreeing to participate. Ultimately, we feel that the series is an opportunity to be part of the New Evangelization and also to bring Christ into the homes of those who are viewing the program. We have spent considerable time with the producers, the director, the film crew and all were very respectful. We are confident that this series will treat the religious life with all dignity.
It is our hope that the series will show that young people of today's generation still seek something deeper than self-fulfillment. Also, religious life has many myths surrounding it in popular culture and we hope to dispel those as well. Ultimately, if the series brings Christ to even just one person, then it was all worth it.

I loved watching "The Sisterhood" and realizing that your community and the other two communities made loving sacrifices to allow this interesting glimpse into the discernment process. Thank you for saying "yes" to this step in the New Evangelization! - Mary Carolyn Carmichael, OSB, obl (Our Lady of Guadalupe Benedictine Abbey, Pecos, New Mexico).
