Spring 2012: The Diocese of Covington's Year of Women Religious

In January of this year, Bishop Roger Foys of our home Diocese of Covington, KY, proclaimed that 2012 would be observed in our diocese as the Year of Women Religious. Below is an excerpt from his letter of announcement published in the Diocesan Newspaper, The Messenger.
“In an address to a religious community of women in 1998 our late Holy Father, Blessed John Paul II, said: ‘In the variety of your charisms and vocations you are a splendid image of the Church, enriched by the Holy Spirit of the Lord with so many gifts and ministries to serve humanity evangelically. The Church expresses to you her gratitude for your consecration and for your profession of the evangelical counsels, which are a particular testimony of love.’ In this same spirit of gratitude and to honor and recognize women religious in our Diocese, I am designating the Year 2012 in the Diocese of Covington ‘The Year of Women Religious.’”
On April 28, we hosted a luncheon conference for all local religious. After Mass at All Saints Parish, Sr. Mary Angela, O.P., Novice Mistress for the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia in Nashville, gave an inspirational talk on the vows and consecrated life. Many Sisters from the local communities attended. We were also blessed to have Fr. James Sullivan, Novice Master of the Dominican Friars’ Province of St. Joseph, and the 2011 class of Dominican novices in attendance.

James, O.P. brought the Dominican Novices to see our Motherhouse. A wonderful time was had by all!
